REVIEW:
Oakcreek Country Club was designed by the father and son team of Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Robert Trent Jones Jr. in the late 60's. Robert Trent Jones Sr. has been quoted to say "Every hole must be a hard par and an easy bogey".
The par 72, 18-hole championship golf course is nestled among the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona with beautiful views to be seen on each hole. The overall golf course design is one of the best we have seen. OCCC is a semi-private course that gets a lot of play from tourist who visit the area. This is one course you don't want to miss if you plan on visiting Sedona.
Oakcreek is a traditional layout similar to those found in the Midwest. The fairways are tree lined doglegs with fairway bunkers strategically placed in the landing areas. The greens are all slightly elevated and surrounded with large swirling greenside bunkers. This is a fun course to play no matter how many times you play it. This is where GolfTest USA conducts a lot of its testing. It is very "player friendly", allowing plenty of room for error but always with an opportunity to recover and get errant shots back into play. Oakcreek Country Club is located in the quiet laidback Village of Oak Creek about 7 miles south of Sedona, Arizona. In 2003 USA Today ran an article in their weekend news magazine in which they picked the 10 most beautiful places in America. Guess whom they picked # 1. Yep, it was Sedona, Arizona. And with good reason. Sedona is located at the western edge of the Colorado plateau at 4,500 feet above sea level. The Grand Canyon is a short 2-hour drive to the north.
Sedona has mild weather year round and is surrounded by national forest land. Everywhere you turn you are struck by the natural beauty of the red rock sandstone formations. It is truly a magical place. Gary Pearce has been the Director of Golf at OCCC for many years and he always makes sure that everything runs smoothly so all golfers have an enjoyable experience. Jamie Lewis is the Head Pro and he also takes pride in making sure that everyone who plays here leaves with fond memories.
The staff is always extremely accommodating and friendly and do everything they can to make sure golfers enjoy their round of golf. The staff at Golf Test USA wants to thank Gary, Jamie and the rest of the OCCC staff for all their assistance and support over the years. Without their help GolfTest USA would not be able to conduct all the testing that we do so that golfers can get info on what are the best golf products for them to consider based on each golfers skill level.
RATING:
GolfTest USA recommends Oak Creek Country Club as
an "ELITE" golf course in the
