  • JUNIOR CLUB RATINGS / MAY 2012

For the past couple of years Golf Test USA has received many requests to evaluate junior clubs. Today most junior clubs have been specially designed to take into account the physical characteristics of younger golfers. We contacted many of the golf companies that make junior clubs and asked them to participate in this new category. Several of the companies agreed to have Golf Test USA test and review their junior golf sets. Most sets included a golf bag, one or two metal woods, 3 or 4 irons and a putter. Some included head covers for the woods. Typically junior sets come in different sizes to accommodate age groups from age 5 to 12. We had young golfers use each set to practice with and play a couple of rounds of golf and then evaluate several criteria we thought would offer an indication of the design, quality and performance of each set. It took us several months to accomplish this, as the logistics involved were substantial. Let us know if you would like to see testing on other junior clubs. It is also helpful if you contact the manufacturer and let them know that you want GolfTest USA to include their clubs in our testing regimen.

Golf Test USA tends to stay away from offering anecdotal comments regarding the testing that we conduct, preferring to let the actual ratings speak for themselves, but in this case we want to offer our observation that all of the junior clubs submitted to us for testing were excellent products. Junior golfers will find that any of these sets with be good for them to get started as they learn the game of golf.

The junior clubs that achieved the highest ratings have been awarded GolfTest USA’s “Seal Of Excellence”. Those junior clubs have been designated with three asterisks after them. “Seal Of Excellence”. Those irons have been designated with three asterisks after them.

Let us know if there are other junior clubs you would like us to test and we will contact the manufacturers and see if they will participate in our next testing cycle.requestatest@golftestusa.com

Over several years of testing GolfTest USA has determined that when subjective and objective ratings from our Test Administrators and the golfers taking the test are combined the overall rating is a very accurate indication of the actual performance of any particular golf product. There is only a small difference in the ratings yet even a couple of percentage points difference from one club to another is significant enough to indicate a club that performs at a superior level to other clubs.
